Hotstart APU Idle Reduction Heating System

The HOTSTART Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is a self-contained preheater system designed for train and locomotive applications. It provides 19 kW of heating power to the engine, lube oil, and optional cab heater through four heat exchange points and a tank heater. Powered by an efficient Tier 4 Final engine, it uses a fraction of the fuel required for idling and includes an 80-amp alternator for battery charging. Designed for seamless integration with locomotive operations, the APU features an intuitive interface, automatic operation, and compatibility with AESS systems.

By maintaining optimal temperatures for the engine and oil, the APU enables locomotives to shut down and restart reliably, even in extreme cold. This helps reduce fuel and oil consumption, emissions, noise, engine wear, and wet-stacking. By reducing reliance on climate-controlled facilities, the HOTSTART APU helps improve locomotive uptime, extend service intervals, and support reliable train operations in demanding weather conditions.
