Using a permanent magnet, the latching valves remain bi-stable in either state without drawing power. A brief 50 millisecond DC voltage applied to the coil shifts the valve from one state to another, while a reverse polarity pulse shifts it back. This makes the valve ideal for remote areas with limited continuous power and for equipment where avoiding coil heating is crucial, such as in medical and chemical analyzers.
